I've been looking at different filter tanks, and bottling units. Nothing is cheap.Today I did a search on brew kettles. I was really impressed by the number of options. Sizes ranging from 5 gal. thru 50 gal. Some included a thermometer, and stainless ball valve. I guess all I would need to do is figure out a filter rack for one. Does anybody here use them for their bottling and filter units? Pros, cons?

I have been thinking the same. Thinking of makeing my own though. Been watching Ebay for a good buy on a kettle to start with. I want stainless, but I think aluminuum would work, do you?

Personally, I would avoid aluminum. If you do a search, you can find some pretty reasonably priced SS kettles.

You can get a new 15x15 for 165 plus a little more for the filter rack and cover on eBay.

68bird,
Check out the kettles at Spike Brewing. He posted some kettles in the classifieds awhile back. They look like they would be just the cats whiskers, and priced decent also.

I shopped the brew kettles and ended up buying an Advantco 110 cup coffee maker for $70. It's tall and skinney and fits the cone filters very well. I use it in two ways, first at draw off with the filter, and then as my bottling unit. It has a double wall stainless body and has a great no drip spigot. As it fills up during boiling I simply drain the syrup off into a regular stainless pot which I use to finish boil in. Lots of different ways to go. Hope this helped.

68bird,
I hate ebay. Just google spike brewing. They have a website with all of their products listed.
