I traded some lumber for a ss syrup barrel, has tare 47 on top,I thougt it was 30 gal but I'm not sure. Looked at fellow trader WMF website and the pic of barrels stated 38 gal. I suppose I could figure it out with water.I only filled it just over 2nd rib with syrup before the season ended abruptly and canned 27.5 gallons ,any comments?

Most of my barrels are 38. I can tell just looking at the diameter if they're 30 or 38. What are the dimensions of yours?

What ever the size I hope you have it refrigerated or you will have a partial fermented barrel. You will be better off repacking it and hot packing it unless you can refrigerated the barrel

I can't tell you what volume your barrel holds, but tare usually refers to a container's empty weight, meaning if weighed when filled subtract 47 (I assume pounds) to get the weight of the contents.
