I was confused, as I couldn't figure out the cause of the explosions in the woods behind my house last night. I decided to do some investigative work online, and I came across this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUi92jFv9uA), which was first showed on the Weather Network a year ago today. Maybe Dr. Perkins would know a thing or two on arboral thermodynamics. I've been busy reading up on the forums here and trying to understand how to tap maple trees and make syrup. I am now heading out into the woods in an attempt to save as many trees as possible. Just wondering if any other producers have had this happen, and I hope everyone didn't get the wool pulled too far over their eyes today:)

Nice. I sent this to a few people to warn them as well.

Thats funny! Ironically, last Fri. evening I had a conversation about sap and syrup, tapping and the tree pressure that develops at night allowing the sap to "run" the following day. After a long pause, the woman asked, "The trees build up pressure?". I answered yes. Then after an even longer pause, while I'm certain she had thoughts of exploding trees all over her neighborhood and in her back yard, she asked, "If you don't take the sap from the tree, where does it all go? What happens then?".

So I explained all the maple tree functions that happen throughout the year, with a lot of time spent on springtime sap flow. But I'm certain that she will still avoid walking or parking her car near those ticking time bombs!
