I have exactly 100 gallons of storage with 33 taps and I maxed it out a couple times this year. I'd say you would want at least a couple hundred gallons of storage if not more.

i have been told and read that you should twice the amount of storage that you expect on "big" run. if you have 50 taps and they are good producing trees, you can expect up to 3 gallons in one day, you should at least 250-300 gallons of storage.

The old rule was 3 gallons per tap , but that was for sugaring the right way (boiling each days run) . Haven't a clue what you might need , with an RO you can get by with less if you recirculate during the day .

Wish I had been able to test that 3gallon number out this year !:( I have 320 gallons of storage and that was all it got for the whole season... for 45 taps. I was planning on going up to 60 taps, but guess I should increase storage as well based on those numbers. Or just boil every night.. ;)

This year I was at 120 taps and had 140 gallon capacity tank. NExt year I will be close to around 400 taps. Guess I better upgrade my tank!

i would say for 50 taps get a cage tank as your bulk tank. i plan to have 2-300 taps next year , how much should i have? (bulk tanks sizes)

Well this year with 200 taps I never gathered more than my 200 gallon gathering tank would hold. For 300 taps I would want to be able to handle a day with over 1000 gallons of sap. And then ask yourself what will happen when they run all that night and you have 1000 gallons the next day at noon as well. . . When your 1000 gallons of storage is full, it will take you 25 hours to boil it all down, at 40 gph evaporation rate. 25 hours of boiling per day is going to be tough to fit between sleep, school, and gathering 300 taps.

I did have one point this year when I kept sap until the third day before boiling, but I have refrigerated storage. If you have a great run is there someone who will buy the sap from you? I had anticipated selling some sap this year if I had more than I could boil per day, but that never happened.
