Hi, first tap today, about 250. I will finish the 100 others tomorrow, then open the road to the sugar shack. The forecast is warm for the next week. It have about 3 feet of snow in the bush. Hope we have a good season, last year was bad. Bernard in Quebec

let us know what the news is from Canada for production. Will give us an idea on the price. As you can see from the posts from south of the border, not a good year for the US producers.

I know of a fellow who tapped 6500 trees just before it got warm.Never got much. Some of the Quebecois tap by the date and not the weather still. Around here not many trees not showing that red tinge now. When I was in the large grocery store yesterday they had syrup on special for $6:95 a can.I get a paper every week that will start to show the production for this year pretty soon. The price paid by the Federation is still $2:81 a pound till the end of march when the new contract starts and they post the prices.

Minimum Quebec federation prices for 2012 are:
AA $2.89
A $2.89
B $2.87

No syrup this year. I had health problems and to much work and when 7pm shows up I am to tired to boil for a whole night. Also my trees never did run this year.I tapped 3 and got maybe 2 gallons of sap in 3 weeks. Those 2012 prices take affect April 1st according to the info I get in the mail. Thats a whole week away.World can end in that time period.

All Done ... pulled taps on the weekend crazy season with the week of warm wheather. Only had one real good run the other days were just average. Sap stayed clear but I did have an "off odor*" on Mar.23 when boiling.

Down from previous years but I am happy ! and finished weeks earlier.. Total = 380- 540 ml Cans. (approx 45gal)

actually the most syrup I ever made , but I only make it for our own consumtion

have made 13.5 gallons, not bad for only boiling on Saturdays with a barrel evaporator
and my homemade flue pan

Well I'm glad to hear that somebody made some syrup. We packed it in after the warm spell, but other people I've talked to kept going. The guys up north in Maine were able to continue.

No numbers are avalaible now, but in Estrie, where i am , and Lapierre, average is 1.75 lbs/tap, wich is low. if you go east, in Beauce and Bas St-Laurent ,average is 2.5 lbs/tap, normal. Temiscouata and Gaspesia are at 3.3 lbs/tap, and it is still running..

Hi, forecast for 10,15 cm of snow, much in the high land, for tomorrow, May be the sap will run with that snow. A friend of mine, who have 43000 taps, have make 300 barrels to date. Another, with 41000 taps make 220 barrels to date. Here in the neiborhood, it's a normal season, better the 2010 and2011. Bernard

The fellows I know here made about half of a normal year and most of it was poor guality.Take in mind that here abouts if it isn't the colour of water it's not good guality. The guy I know the best had at least half of his production go commercial due to the trees budding by the 18 of March. We also had no snow here this year so it warmed up way to soon.

KenWP, Theres is a big difference if you were west of Sherbrooke and east of it. Here , i made extralight and light, up to the "March summer week", make some medium, stop for a week, and it restart with light up to the end.. but west of Sherbrooke, it was a very bad season.

Even Coaticook is colder then here this year and that is 21 Kms east of me. I am waiting for the crop report I get in the mail sometime soon. Course it's in french LOL. Good thing I have lot's of old syrup as my trees never started this year. I maybe got 2 gallons of sap in the week they did run and then they budded out.
