ok i boiled down a bunch of sap and final product is way to dark. I was useing a hydrometer but 1 second it was not floating and the next time i checked it was floating higher then the red line. So ? is could i add that syrup to my next boil and try not to boil it so much. Will it lighten up at all......jim

You can either add it to your next batch or you can just add a little bit of sap to it till the density is right. Either way will work as good as the other!

I wouldnt add it to the next batch, as it will make it all really dark. Thin it and reheat to 190 or so, and bottle it up.
Hopefully the next batch is lighter for you. Keep you sap cool and fresh. The sooner you can process it the better for quality.

Or you could cook it more and make really good soft candy.;)

If you add sap you should boil it a a few minutes first to kill off any microbes before adding to your syrup. Just bringing it to bottling temp won't be high enough to be sure you've killed off any bacteria in it. Or thin with distilled water.
