When using wool filters, are you supposed to wet them before running syrup through them?

AS far as I know you can run a wee bit of hot sap though it first. I pre wash them in hot water then run a little hot sap through... Once I am done I hang it over a bowl and let the syrup drip into it. Great for use on the morning french toast.. I also put a paper filter on the outside of the wool filter

You will have a heck of time trying to run syrup through a dry filter. It'll just plug up and everything will come to a slow stop.
You'll get much better results if you first wet the filter in boiling sap or water, then squeeze as much water out as you can.
Place pre-filters on the Inside, not the outside. They are much easier to clean than the wool/felt filter.
We use three at a time and remove and rinse out in the flue pan as they plug up. Depending on the size of your draw; you may end up with only one left in the felt filter before your syrup has run all the way through.
