Releaser question

I have a gas powered pump. So I shut it down this afternoon to put gas in it. I noticed that sap continued to pour into the upper canister but would not fall into the dumping part. I have never noticed this before. Is it normal or is something wrong? I let the pump run out of gas last night and when I showed up this morning the sap was running through it fine.

My releaser does that when it dumps. The vacuum in the upper chamber of the releaser is greater than in the main chamber. When the vacuum level comes back up in the main chamber the sap flows in from the upper chamber. The same thing happened when you shut off your pump.

My releaser does the same thing when I shut it down. I believe what is happening is the vacuum is being held in your lines thus holding the flappers shut. Once the vacuum drops it will allow the sap to drop into the lower chamber.
