I know it's normal to get moths and other stuff in your buckets after a warm up but...ya know all those "snow fleas"? At least that's what I call them..type of flea you see this time of year sprinkled about on top of the snow. Anyway, one bucket has a good deal in it so I dumped it and rinsed it with snow...the other buckets had between 5 and 10 floating in the sap (didn't get hardly any sap by the way). I assume the boiling kills anything the fleas could put in the syrup but wanted to check here....being that fleas carried the plaque and all LOL.

I would filter them before you boil. I wouldnt think it will give an off taste with just a few and I dont think they will drink much.

I'd filter them out and keep the sap. They're not really fleas and not even a true bug or even a true insect and are mostly harmless. They're a type of springtail. If you're adventurous you can even keep some as pets :o......
