Burning outside of the evaporator

Heard Goulds had a good scare yesterday,some regular customers mentioned a stronger than usual smoke smell then someone driving by pulled in and said your roof is on fire! Well Edgar's daughter was up on the roof in no time(I think she is in her 50's but no slacker),she had the fire out before the fire dept. arrived, they still had to rip up some of the roof. The sugarhouse is over 45 years old and it's got a wood shingle roof!

Good lesson for anyone planning on building a new sugarhouse, spend a few extra $$$ and put metal on the roof. I am not criticizing anyone in anyway that has done differently, but I would be too scared to boil with anything other than that. :?

Gould's better put a new roof on their sugarhouse or its only going to happen again. They could get away with cedar shingles with a conventional arch but now that they have an inferno arch not a good combo. It might not be a bad idea to set up a sprinkler on the roof to keep it wet on dry days.
