Don't recall ever having weather like this, as this is only our 5th year.

It is going to be very warm all night, and the trees just started to run.

With themps in the upper 30's tonight, will the tress run all night?

I kind'a need to know as if they do We'll need to go and gather before work tomorrow.

Thanks!

"Work" is that paying obligation/distraction that gets in the way of sugaring...and fun...and...

And, yes - they can and do run all night.

I'll be checking some of my heavy hitters in the morning to see if I need to collect the rest. Nothing like a fast paced run through the woods at daybreak to wake you up.

Oh yes. I've made that run before. Underdressed, no boots, stumbling all over. You think on your way to work, "I'll just stop and check this one bucket", next thing you know you're 1/4 mi. from the car, racing from tree to tree.
And yes, they can run all night.

@wcproctor: Work; "A major inconvenience between two weekends".

Sure I'll get up and go fetch the sap, as I'm thinkin' many of my pails will be brimming.

Yes it can run all night and I hope that it does. I need the sap.

I hope you folks fared better than me. It should've run all night here as well. But looks like my trees didn't get the memo. :(

Praying that today will more than make up for it. Supposed to get up to the 40-50s. But I seem to be in my own little microclimate or something.

Murphy's law of sap...the buckets will overflow when you don't expect them and when you do expect it, the trees don't run lol. I'm maybe right 20% of the time on sap running predictions. I tapped the second half of my trees on a Wednesday evening (and they were running) and by Thursday morning at 9, they had full gallons on them.

The sap was still coming good at 8:00 tonight. It was running as good then as it had been earlier in the day when it was still light out.

This thread got me wondering. Just drove up and checked some of the taps at 11 and everything is still running. Not a mega-run but the buckets were dripping between 1 and 3 seconds per drip.

They ran all night here in southern Ontario for me. I empty some yard maple buckets last night around 9 pm and checked this morning at 6am and they were still dripping. Buckets half full.

OK. Today is going to be a BAD BAD BAD day for me.

Turned out to be a BAD BAD day. Collected over 80 gallons of sap in a 7 hour period yesterday. :D It's rainy today but I've got to boil all day outdoors (no shelter) to use up the sap.
Only have a 55gallon drum as storage & my snow refrigeration has just about melted away.

Last night here on the North shore of Otty Lake in Perth the sap did run all night. two to three gallons per tree. The temperature never hit 32 or 0 it was 9 or 48 this morning. now there is snow on the ground and we did have a deep freeze for two days

I have been told that they can run for three days after a hard extended freeze, I had a 36 hour run several years ago, I hope Dr. Tim has time to wiegh in on this thread after his research projects end this season.
I'm curious if the time period of the freeze equals the run time during the thaw? I hope they will have some data on that at the Proctor Maple Research Center.

I hope so because it's been cold for 2 days here then warming up and no freezing for the whole week I think...
