here's a quick list for you wood fired guys

1) Sap Pan boiling too slow - You need to add more wood to the firebox

2) Syrup Pan boiling too slow - You need to fill the firebox with wood

3) Uneven boiling - Not enough wood in the firebox

4) Syrup seems to dark - You are not boiling hot enough. Add more wood

5) Syrup is light colored and bland tasting - You are boiling too slow. Fill up the firebox

6) Lots of black smoke coming out of the stack - Not hot enough, you need to add wood.

7) Too much steam condensing and dripping all over- Add more wood.

Glad I could help.

LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!There that should cut down on some of the redundant dumb questions. People you are not trying to warm a house with a wood stove. You are trying to create a near nuclear reaction under the pans!

Some of the ideas are actually quite practical. I like the idea of keeping a pot of sap on the woodstove. Or using a slow boil to allow unattended boiling.

Still sitting at 15 deg F, but I'm out to set my last tanks and get the last 300 taps bored today. Should have 750, maybe 800 taps this year if I hang my 50 buckets.
