anyone else get better sugar %. First three boils was 1.8 and the last two was close to 4%. Most 55 gal. barrels were close to 4% and one was 4.5 the reds on buckets were reading 2.5% to 4%. tested 3 55 gal. mostly sugars and 12 buckets mostly reds. the bush was heavy thinned 3 years ago and I finish releasing all the crop trees over the last two years. Maybe all the timber managing is starting to pay off or is it just the whether and slower runs? Last year averaged 1.6%

Those are good numbers. Mine started at 1.8%, but has held steady between 2.0-2.1%...same as last year. 4% sure would be nice though.

We've only had one run and it tested out at 2.25. Our first year so we'll see how it goes when the season starts for real (hopefully Wed since the weather looks good this week).

Trailguy, I have 3 reds going into a 5 gal bucket that tested out @ 4% on Sunday afternoon. Still not enough on hand to sweeten the pans yet though.

We have a new bush this year that is about 600 taps on buckets. hasnt been tapped in years, just logged out the hemlock last year. all the trees are totem poles with small canopies. 10% hard maple, 90% soft. first collection last week was 3.1%. I bought another hydrometer thing it was wrong but it wasnt.

This is where I've consistently been all season.

Wow, impressive numbers. Good for you and maybe it was the forest managment.
