Are there different densities of fire brick in terms of heat tolerance and what is ok to use for a 2x6 arch. One supplier said there brick is rated at 2300 degrees and another said 1900 degrees. Another said theirs is commercial grade. The one that said 1900 degrees is a local supplier and I would prefer getting the brick their if it will do the job. Any suggestions or information would be helpful. Thank You.

If someone had one of those laser thermometers, it would be easy to test how hot the brick are while in use. I would guess very hot, but I don't know the exact temps.

You might want to get the 2300F. In the flue pan area it's really hot. So, to be safe, the 2300 resist more heat.

I had the edges of the front door on my arch and the firebricks that line it glowing red (approx. 1500 degrees) the other night. My standard grade firebricks survived it just fine. I don't think you'll exceed 1900 degrees with a wood fired arch.
