Theroritical question

A buddy and I were having a friendly conversation and were wondering what would happen if you took 5 gallons of grade A light syrup and mixed it with 200 gallons of water and then ran it through your evaporator? Would you make a grade or two darker syrup? And how much?

I would think it depended a little on the water. Well water might have some minerals in it you wouldn't want, and public water will have some chemicals in it you might not want concentrated either. If pure 100% water, then I would think it would be darker for sure.

what wnybassman said. You should also end up with about the same amount as you started with less the losses from skimming, filtering and what gets stuck in the pan after cooking.
