This weekend we are going to tap the trees.
Nightime/ daytime temps will be -10c,
Next week temps look like the sap will flow.
Any tips for tapping frozen trees?
Can it be done and just gently stuff in the spiles.
Dont want to damage any trees, but need to get catching some sap....
Thanks;

Frozen trees can be tapped without a problem as long as you don't over drive the spiles into the tap holes. Overdriving a spile will cause a leak around the spile. Once a spile is properly seated, the sound emitted when you hit it changes. Good luck this season.

There is a new lapierre drill bit for frozen trees. It works pretty good.
You need to change back to a reguar bit like the tree saver though once it warms up or it makes slightly ratty holes.

Most of my trees were frozen when tapped.
