Tapping Frozen Trees

This weekend we are going to tap the trees.
Nightime/ daytime temps will be -10c,
Next week temps look like the sap will flow.
Any tips for tapping frozen trees?
Can it be done and just gently stuff in the spiles.
Dont want to damage any trees, but need to get catching some sap....

short answer? Yes. Gentle is the word. Recheck for leaks around the taphole when things start running.

The big guys end up tapping most of their taps in frozen trees because they have to start a few weeks before the season starts.
