Making used english tin flue pan shorter?

Found a 2x6 english tin flue pan for sale, But my arch is only a 2x6 and want to keep room for my syrup pan 24"x18". So my question is has anyone ever cut a section out of a flue pan and re-attached. Can you bronze or mig weld english tin. If i need too, put a new end on it with regular steel. Maybe i'm just wasting my time and money?

Probably easier to stretch your arch the extra length and heck you'll gain more in gph evaporation.
