View Full Version : BEER POLL,,,Please Lemmee know ???

I thought this would be a funny one to show my wife to let her see I am not alone.....Hope I,m not alone.

Who has a beer while slaving away with the sap and syrup chores. I don,t mean a total drunk and not everytime, but usually a beer or two may disappear during the boil or whenever ??

Maybe if you reply we can just have each post add eith a YES or NO with the numbers, that way we don,t have to read every post.

Example would be,,,if your the 8th post,,, you may see YES 4 and NO 3,,,then post yours add 1 to yes or no. Yes 5 No 3 for example.

Hope that makes sense !!

Here goes...... Yes 1 No 0

I don't drink at all. Although I would love a beer at times I have 7 children watching everything I do. If they see daddy as a drinker then they would be more likely to drink someday also. I guess i'm just a boring sugar maker.

Theres nothing like a warm maple shot with an Ice cold boilin' soda chaser...followed by a sweet sap cooked hot dog!!! although this year I cut down on the boilin' sodas! I just drink too many while boilin' cause they go down so easy!!!

Adding that my choices would be in order BASS ALE, Guiness(mmmm black and tans), Yeungling(when I can get it), SAM, (also like the sam light very good for a light beer), killians, Long trail ALE, followed by anything else in that catagory! Sorry no IPA's too hoppy for me and please no Bud or Coors or the lights they are too much like being in a canoe!!! ;)

I think i can boil 40 gallons a day. not quite that today cause i ran out of sap still thats way better. 27 taps 2 55 gallon barrel heater. its on in coastal maine

56 yes, 9 no -- I make all my own beer, but never drink anything if there's any possibility of having to drive and the sugarhouse is at Dave's/maple flats, about 40 minutes away in good weather. I haven't tended the evaporator for Dave yet this year, though, so maybe I don't count.

As far as giving beer to your dogs -- be careful, or at least aware, that some sources claim that hops causes malignant hyperthermia in canines. It's been bandied about a great deal, some agree some disagree. As far as I'm concerned, I've seen plenty of dogs given beer and have even seen some dogs eat the spent trub containing whole hops and nothing happened to them at all, but at least two of my friends have had this happen to their dogs and they nearly lost them. Maybe it all boils down to something akin to how some people die from ingesting trace amounts of peanuts, who knows. Just an FYI.

Also, Terry -- beer is a LOT less likely to go skunky if it's not in clear or green bottles that have been exposed to sunlight, UV or flourescent lights. The only exception is Miller, they don't use hops they use hop oils and the light exposure doesn't affect hop oils.

As far as buying beer: GO OMMEGANG!!!!!!! hah! Love their stuff.... and not to far away, either.

P.S. - I think the count got screwed up someplace or two along the way. But, what do I know - I'm having a glass of one of my finest ales to date. Ahhhh.....

Probably a good thing I didn't have alot of sap to boil.
