View Full Version : sap hydrometer
Anybody know what temperature the sap has to be to read the sap hydrometer accurately? Not sure if I'm reading mine right because it's showing sugar maples at 1.5%. I was thinking of tapping red maples but if the sugar content is lower than that - not worth the fuel. ??

The one we have says what temp. it is calibrated at. I think it is 47 degrees but that might not be right. Ill check next time I go down to the sugarhouse. On ours it is printed on the paper inside the hydrometer. Rob

I think mine says 36 or 37 degrees to read sap at. Will check to be sure, I always checked it as soon as I start running it thru my UV and temp would not always be exactly the same but might be close.

I checked mine this morning as I was leaving for work. It should be 38 degrees. Not sure if it makes a difference but mine is from Leader.

Thanks everyone. Guess it was too easy since it was right in front of me. Mine also says 38. How many dumb questions is a beginner allowed?
