old surge dairy pump?

anyone have any suggestions on the fluxuation in vacuum on a dairy pump we took the regulator off, had 21'' at the pump, opened up the mainline valve and had only 12'' at the releaser. the other day it was froze in the woods and we had 17'' at the releaser. any one have any input. its all we can do till we can afford a real pump

Is the pump at the releaser? How big are your lines? How long are your lines? If you had better vacuum levels when it was frozen, I'd guess vacuum leaks....

the pump is at the releaser, the mainline is 1 1/2'' and about 1200 feet

Sounds like you have leaks to chase down ! If you run a constant stream of water onto your pump housing , you can pick up an additional 3 or 4 inches of vac with a cool pump . You didn't say how many taps you have on that 1 1/2" main , as long as it's not over a thousand or so you should be good !

What size is your vac line to your releaser (from the pump to releaser), how far is your pump from the releaser? I had a line that was too small last year and it hurt performance upgraded to 1" this year and am getting allot better results.
