Boiled last night and I was making B-grade or maybe it was a C. :? So today (while I was working) My father drained the syrup pans and scrub them clean. I will save what he drained off and finish it in my holding tank (finishing pan) Then when I got home we drained the flue pan and ran all of it through the filter press and put it on the syrup pans while we cleaned the flue pan. I hope it helps the grade. We did find that there was a scrotched area on one of the syrup pans so that may have caused us to lose grade.
If the weather holds and I have time we will flush main lines in the bush on Monday.
What do the rest of you do?

Ron,

Good idea on the cleaning. I clean the syrup pan, but never bother with the flue pan during the season. I try to sanitize all my collecting tanks in the woods 1 time each week and the tanks in the sugarhouse once each week. I usually only empty the ones in the sugarhouse about 1 time per week or I would do it more often.

Your on top of it, keep up the good work. The cleaning will help a some on grades, but the sap is the biggest key.
