70 Buick - Great to hear - I have been waiting to see how your barrel evaporator was going to work for you.

On the "sap jumping up 4 inches out of each tube" are you referring to the tubes in the pre-warmer pan or are you referring to action in the evaporator pans?

My pans look almost the same except with 18 tubes per pan.I had to put a grate over the back pan to keep the sap in the pan and made extra 8 inch sides to the front pan and it still spits on me once in a while. It boils like 3 times as fast as the flat pans did.

That is so awesome. This might be a silly question, but how do you get the sap from the flue pan to the syrup pan?

Laddle it forward
at the end of the day I take the pan out & pour it in the syrup pan, fill the flue with new sap

Not a perfect system but what the hell, we only do it for fun, & in this bad year we got almost 14 gallons of syrup LOL
