So we finally got around to doing the test boil on our new to us 5x14 oil fired evaporator. The evaporator is an older D&G with new Lapierre pans (three 20 inch front syrup pans and a 9 foot flue pan), reverse flow kit, two Carlin 701 burners, the barometric control on the stack as well as an additonal damper at the base of the stack. We have the burners set up how they were. We ran it a little deep just to be safe (first time operating an evaporator on our own) and it went quite well except for the very front syrup pan did not boil has hard as the other two. The back pan was boiling nicely and the draft gauge was within the recommended level (upper end). The flame was good and we were getting a nice burn with no smoke coming out of the stack. We were thinking of backing the draft off a little to see if we could get more heat on the front pan. We can't really back the burners themselves out of the evaporator much more. Any suggestions are welcome.
