I am thinking about getting a new pump to transfer sap out of my collection tank on my truck into my bulk tank at my sugar camp. If I wanted to go with an electric one does anybody have any recommendations? I use a 2 cycle homelite pump now to transfer the sap onto my truck but it's about 10 years old and see its better days.

Well looks like I will be buying a new pump in the morning. Just went to empty my tank from the 300 taps I put out yesterday that is almost over flowing and my pump is locked up tight! Lowes or tractor supply co? Those are probably my two best options.

The small engine pumps (like the homelite) pump more gpm than the electric ones at the stores you mentioned. Lowes does'nt have any gas powered pumps. If you always have access to electric and loading/unloading time is'nt an issue, great. If you don't want to rely on always having electric and would like to get done a little quicker, go with another gas unit. Nine gpm, I think, is what the electric units do from those stores. My Homelite (2-cycle, 1" ports) does 25 or better. I think my other pump (4-cycle, 1" ports) is rated at 28 or 30.

I use a Wayne stainless steel sprinkler pump. You can buy them at Fleet Farm for $130

Well I went to lowes and they didn't have much to chose from so I decided to check out tractor supply. They had an electric one that pumped around 25 gal per min for $279. They also had a 5.5 go Briggs and Stratton pump that pumps 150 gal per min for $229. So I went with the faster one. What a difference it is now when I pull up to a 300 or 425 gal tank and pump them out! Barely get it going and it's empty!

Tell me more about this 5.5 Briggs and Straton. Stainless steel? Electric? GPM?

Well, Briggs & Stratton is a small gas engine manufacturer so it'd be gasoline powered, and it's 5.5 hp, and pamaple wrote that it's 150 gallons/minute, the only thing is whether or not it's stainless - ??? I don't know. :)

No it's not stainless steel it is mostly plastic from what I can tell. Here is a link to it.
