Tapping Today

My neighbor got 200 gallons last week, so im going to throw my buckets out. Its early, but its been a whacky winter. (Marlboro VT)

i put out 36 buckets yesterday check them today had 1/4 of a bucket in all of them

I tapped 65 on tubing today and put out two buckets as well. Smaller trees were running ok, but larger trees not so much. The sugar content in one of the field side trees with 14"dbh was 4%. I didn't have a chance to test what came in on the tubing. Will finish tapping the tubing over the next several days as my schedule allows, and will probably wait to do the buckets for another week or so. It seems like the season is here in Addison County.

just over 5000 tapped as of tonight and releaser was dumping every 3-4 minutes when i got to the pump house. didnt warm up to much on top of the mountain i was on today but i guess the lower smaller trees ran like hell. tomorrow finish up the lot were in now (6200taps) then i get to walk that lot and get vacuum up while my co workers get to go and start the small lot (3000taps). hopefully by next week we will get all that tied down and we can get into the sugarhouse lot (16,000taps). tapping, tapping and more tapping.

315 taps in and I boiled in the first 100 gallons of sap last night. It was still running hard at 8 pm when I emptied the tubing tank. Planning to hang 100 or so buckets today and make some syrup tonight!
