I can't help myself - I just had to do it.

I checked buckets yesterday morning, collecting small samples from a bunch of them to check sugar content at home with the hydrometer. (Average 2.4%) A half gallon of sap, all told.

There wasn't enough in the buckets to bother with, so I was gonna pitch the sap, but just couldn't do it. Instead, I poured it into the turkey roaster on the stove and boiled it down to a shot glass full of light amber, which I poured on vanilla ice cream at bedtime.

Helps control the fever until the real runs start!
