Mad rush to get it all up and going, everyone here knows the season has come early.
I’m short a roof jack right now but can get my hands on a Stainless one tomorrow. Problem is that my stack is all galvanized.
Can’t help thinking about dissimilar metals, corrosion, rust etc. if I mate SS and galv together.
Really don’t want to trash a roof jack that is twice the price of a galvanized, nor do I want to add the expense of converting my stack to all stainless.
Problem mating these?
No problem?
Looking for a little guidance.

my stack is stainless and my roof jack is galvanized and been that way for ten years. I have had no problem then again I have not climbed up on the roof in at least three years.

Problem solved.
Had a chance to do some digging around. The short of it is: Galvanized contains zinc, and yes, when mated to SS, it will cause corrosion (It’s that dissimilar metal thing going.)
The roof jack was not a 10” as I was told, but rather a 12”. So…install the jack, run my 10” stack right up through it, ring the 10” with high temp insulation (ceramic blanket) near the top to hold the gap, add a sacrificial collar and call it a day.
I’d like to have a SS stack, but the price is a sticking point. The shack is getting some additions and we plan to get on vacuum before the ’13 season. This set-up is going to have to make it a couple of years before I can talk the wife into springing for a new stack. Good to know someone else has the same configuration that has lasted. Sets my mind at ease, for now.

roof jack supposed to be 2" larger than stack pipe, at least thats what I have heard, think its for cooling purposes
