I have a 400 gallon milk tank that I need to elevate approx. 5 feet so it will flow
to the evaporator. I have new railroad ties that are 7" x 9" in size. I was wondering
if anyone has build a crib style support (Box) and if that would carry the weight.

If possible pictures would be great

Thanks
Dean

I built a setup like this for my 600 gallon tank. Used 6 6"x6" by 8' larch posts with 6 2"x6"x6' beams. The tank sits directly above the posts for the most support. All lumber is rough cut. I'll try and get some pics.

i am going to build one tonight for my 450 ss sap tank and i am using 6-4x4 pt with 2x10 "joists" and lags bolts. i will using 2x material to cross support it. make sure you notch out your posts to a depth of at least 1" to support you joists and keep some shear pressure off from your lag bolts. putting joists on approx 16" oc.

Here are my pics. The 2x6 overhand is for a walkway.
