Ok, we have 34 gallons of sap, so we started working on the evaporator tonite........ :)

We allready have an 18x48 pan, so we are going to modify the barrel stove to make it work. Going to build a box on the back to contain the fire, and it will also give us a ramp effect. There will be a perimeter frame to hold the pan, it will extend 20" past the back end of the barrel. The bottom of the extension will be the ramp. Using firebrick on the sides, and floor grates. Will also have a tapered chimney funnel thingy :) We are going to try some kiln dried hardwood from the local sawmill for fuel, should be pretty hot. Will post a few pics, when ready. It won't be pretty, but it should be better than propane!

You'll like the hardwood- propane gets to be a little expensive. Don't worry about it not being pretty. The sap really does'nt care what it looks like- it only gets a long look at the inside of the pan. Good luck!
