I'm using a 6 barb fitting star fitting for a sap ladder. How many taps will that handle?

I have heard that a rule of thumb is 60 taps per 6 star fitting. That being said, I talked to some people at D&G in Canada a couple years ago and their reccomendation was no more than 25 taps per fitting,

I have been working on the assumption of 10 taps per barb...but why I have that number in my head, I cannot tell you...

We're at 60 taps per 6 barb fitting (10 per line) and it works fine.

We have an area in our woods (roughly 60 taps) that if we were to use sap ladders, we would have to lift it at least 20 maybe 30 ft using a series of sap ladders. My question is would it be better to sap ladder it up that much or to put a separate tank and releaser there (have a separate collection point). We would probably have more production having a separate collection point but how much is the question? Sam

Depends on the number of taps. We installed a triple lift sap ladder this past year with each lift rising 8ft for a total lift of about 21ft. It only picks up 110 taps. If there were 2 or 3 hundred I'd consider adding a tank and releaser.

Sap ladders will do the job as long asa your system is tight. In my opinion a tank and releaser would be too much of an expense for only 60 taps.
