Just curious if anyone has any extra blanket insulation lying around. I'm hoping to get it quicker than having it shipped. I need about 1x8ft. I'm in Montgomery County, NY.

Maplehunter do you have an art supply near by? I bought mine at an art store much cheaper and same stuff. I think i paid $60.00 for a large roll. Good Luck. Lee

I'll check on the art supply. I'm try to insulate my homemade barrel evaporator, which worked pretty good last year, but ate up wood like crazy. I'd have to say I probably went through close to a cord for only 2 gallons. The sides were usually glowing bright red, which obviously isn't a good thing. I'm hoping this year I can take care of all that lost heat and make more syrup.

I called Ceramic Fiber and they had two different density blankets, 6lb and 8lb. Does it matter what one I use?

8lb was about the same price , I would get it, denser so I would think it would compress less and work better... that was what I was planning on getting...
