I had hoped for a couple days earlier, but we got 187 tapped yesterday. All plastic pails with tubing drops and tree saver spouts. I'm liking them so far, but they are slower to put in than the metal buckets.
When we got done, we stopped at the first bucket set on the way home. 2" sap in the bucket. We brought home a sample and the sap hydrometer said 3.25% sugar. That's not bad for woods trees.
Looks like I might hit 500 taps this year. (I was aiming for 400) Every bucket set lead us to another nice tree just 25 feet deeper into the woods. Properly thinned, I think I might have 500 taps right out back. (Too scattered and flat for tubing, though)
We start down the road side trees first thing this morning, with 300 buckets in the trailer. THen to set the storage tank on the cribbing, clean it and go gather. Busy day!
