I increased my taps this year and I need to transport the sap. Does anybody use 275g totes, and if so are they safe or does anybody have any concern on using them? Thanks.

The 275 gallon or 330 gallon totes work great for transporting sap. We just make sure they are a tote that contained food grade material. Stay away from the garlic totes you can't get that out of the totes your sap will taste and smell like garlic.

I just found a guy that has over 60 totes that are 275g. He is selling them for $50 a tote and he said he thought a lot of them were filled with vegetable oil or mineral oils. The guy told me it was hard to find out what was stored in the totes. Do you have a good way of knowing if it would be safe? By the way I am waiting out the weather and not tapping.

If your still looking for totes, pm me. I have a good supplier that had starch based adhesive in them and clean out with just water. I'm picking up more this Monday.

The 2 totes I have had labels on them for what came in them.
In my opinion unless you are absolutely sure the totes always contained food grade materials, I would not use them. Just as others have stated. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. My dad just bought two 275g totes that looked pretty good. We still might use these tote liners just to make us more comfortable. The company puts a FDA guarantee on the liners.
