I am just finishing my new evaporator. I cut up an air tight stove and used the double doors for the front. However, one of the doors no longer shuts very tight and there is a 1/2" gap between the gasket and the steel frame. Is it important to have a good seal on the door? I have a 12"x6" door in the ash box to supply the air. The rest of the evaporator is just sheet metal screwed to angle iron.
If you do not have a blower it will not be a huge deal, but could let cool air on the bottom of your pan. The air really should come from under the fire with no blower. If you are putting a blower on you will need tighter doors.

I may add a blower once I see how my evaporation rate. I guess I had better try and tighten up the doors.
Thanks
