Well, I have two Delavals. The 76 uses a 3hp electric motor and the 73 uses a 1hp electric. I have seen the 76 with a 5.5 Honda so my guess is that you could go smaller with the 73.

I don't remember the formula but I think that you multiply the HP of the electric motor to get the HP of the gas motor needed.

We need to assist in filling out the survey. The research done by UVM Proctor Research directly benefits what we love to do.

Thanks to those who have completed the survey so far....but we need a LOT more participation. Please complete the survey at

Don't make me come out there and get you.

Don't forget that a vacuum pump has to turn around 1600rpm's to make vacuum consistently. A small motor has to run at a higher speed to maintain 1600rpm's. It is better to have a larger gas motor run a half throttle than a smaller run tached out. I run Gast 2565 on a 11hp half throttle and they run 10 hours on three gallons of gas.
