1/2 barrel for syrup

I just acquired a 1/2 barrel keg Iv'e read on here that you can store syrup in them. What do you have to do to them and is it worth doing? thanks for any info

I have never used them, but have used other barrels. The big issue is really cleaning them out. Steam is best, hot water will do. I dont use anything other than water for cleaning to keep from introducing off flavors/contamination.
