Hi, I am looking for any advice on how drill and turn in a vac guage into a pvc valve. I have tried 2 so far and have mess them both up, any help would be great. Thanks so much, or if any one can point me to a older topic that this was covered in( I am sure it has been covered before)
I have a 1/4" pipe thread tap that I use to make threads in the pvc after drilling a hole.

I used an 1/8 tap that I use in the pvc ball valves, no problem with leaks or breakage so far. I did have some trouble with the vac guages freezing, looking into some liguid filled ones now.

Thanks guys, I have heard of people drilling a hole and using the brass threads on the gauge to thread into the pvc valve, this is what I was trying (with very little luck) thanks for the replys

Why wouldn't you just use a saddle, then you can plumb the gauge to your trail.

Hi BIG JOHN, I am pretty new to all this, this is my first tubing set up. I have only seen people put the gauges into the pvc valves. The way your talking you would put a saddle on the main line, 5/16 off sabble, and put the gauge on the 5/16 with a clamp. Sounds like a lot better way of doing it. I will give it a try. Thanks

Not sure I'm following this. I've always used either the gray water pipe T fittings or a PVC T fitting. The T has the female thread, you can then use a PVC bushing to reduce the size to the male vac guage. The other two sides of the T are anything you want - pipe, pvc - whatever you want to do.

I had this vac gauge that was not right but it had rubber half sphere that you could stick on pipes and stuff so I just switched it over a because I only have on vac gauge.

Buy a PVC tee and use reducing bushings to get down to the vacuum gauge fitting.

forget all the fitting. 1 saddle, 1 straight or slide on wire, connect tubing to saddle, run tubing to desired spot to view gauge. gauge will have a 1/4 insert threaded onto it as you can't get 5/16. that is fine, use a clamp or wire tie. I am normally hooking it to another main line that is near the trail. so another slide or straight. then a blocked T so the gauge is standing straight up!!! or go out over the trail so you can view it at 50 mph.

The reason I like the plastic valves is I can isolate a section of main line as I go. I tap the valve on the down stream side and install the guage...when I shut the valve I am isolating back to the realeaser...makes it a lot faster when trying to find leaks. Do what ever you are comfotable with.....
