While I'm waiting for it to warm up enough to go work on the arch, I think I'll describe my sap filters in case anyone needs one.

We bought some used flat filters that had been cut in half off the bargain table at the dealers. My wife sewed each one into a sock that would just slip over a 5" disk. I got some 1/2" thick plexiglass from the hockey arena for free (broken pieces) and cut out 5 inch disks with a hole saw on the drill press. I drilled and tapped a hole in the center for a 3/4" garden hose nipple.

The open end of the sock slips onto the disk, and a stainless hose clamp keeps it there. My submersible pump discharges thru a garden hose, thru the filter into a tank.

Since the tank is cleaned between each load, we can see to the bottom of 3 feet of sap without a single speck floating around.
