Dear Maple Producers,

I invite you to participate in a survey describing your maple operation and yield during the 2011 sugaring season. The purpose of this project is to explore the relationships among tubing system attributes (age and type of equipment used, replacement, etc) and sap yield.

The survey is located at:

http://www.kwiksurveys.com/online-survey.php?surveyID=KIONKG_c3f8cb68

Please feel free to share this link with others who make maple syrup and in your local maple associations. The goal is to capture as much data as possible.

The survey consists of 43 questions/comments and should take about 10-15 minutes. Survey data collection will end on April 1st, 2012.

Please note that all units are generally english-units typically used in the maple industry, for example:
diameter at breast height (dbh) = inches
sap yield = gallons of SAP (not syrup) per tap
vacuum = inches of mercury (" Hg)

You may choose to remain anonymous if you like. No information about your individual responses will be shared -- all results will be aggregated.

Your participation will help us to develop a computer model to predict how making changes to tubing systems will affect sap yield, and display several possible scenarios for changes, including the economic cost, and potential benefits to making these changes.

Thank you in advance for your help,

Sincerely,

Dr. Tim Perkins, Director
UVM Proctor Maple Research Center

Hello Again Folks....

We're up to 193 survey participants, but I know we can do better (we had nearly 350 for the tubing cleaning survey). I'd like to get to 250 or better on this one. Now that we're getting a little cold weather for a bit (at least up here in northern Vermont), I hope folks who have not yet done it will take the time (10-15 minutes) to do the survey now. It's located at:
http://kwiksurveys.com/online-survey.php?surveyID=KIONKG_c3f8cb68

We finished tapping about 10 days ago. Had one small run, and another moderate run (just a tad too cold). Have made about 150 gallons of syrup so far (minimum target is 1,500 gallons on approximately 3,000 taps). Looks like we'll get a break here for the next 4-5 days at least.
