Sap to Syrup Ratio?

I need a little clarity here,

If I have 100gallons of fresh RO'ed sap @ 8%, approximatly how much syrup would be produced?

3% will take 28 gallons to make 1 gallon

2% will take 43 gallons to make 1 gallon

1.5% will take 57 gallons to make 1 gallon

1% will take 86 gallons to make 1 gallon

just use the rule of 86. take 86 and divide it by 8% and thats how many gallons you have to boil off. so 86/8=10.75 gallons to boil off. so you will have about 10 gallons of syrup produced.

Thanks for the quick reply, I forgot about the rule of 86! Must of be having a brain fart!

You should make 8.8 Gals. . The rule of 86 doesn't work anymore , hasn't in a long time . When the rule of 86 came about Syrup was made to a lower Brix than it is today . I use the rule of 89.2 , and it comes out right on the button . That is where everyones shrinkage comes from , bad math formula . Give it a try and you will have an epithany !
