Finishing up the last few items on our new Sugar House. Started nearly a year ago, but was delayed with a little trip for our Government (Afghanistan), but it is now close to done!!! I'm looking forward to some quiet time in the woods and boiling with my wife and children....

I should mention that the metal maple leaf was made by Anderson's Metal Sculpture, Cedar Springs, MI (www.andersonsmetalsculpture.com) and the standing seam roof was put on by Mike Mayo at Weathercheck, LLC, Georges Mills, NH (http://weathercheckroof.com).

From the inside, (pic #5) the siding looks like cedar.

Looks outstanding…And Thank You Mike for your service. Can you explain to a rookie what is going on in pic #3? Sap storage and wood area…..Is that pipe to pump sap into sugarhouse? Also, Do I see copper supply lines in pic #4 going towards the evaporator? I am adding a preheater this year and will have a "head tank" I guess it's called, 24 gallons, inside. Pumping from my sap storage area, just outside the wall. Trying to figure out the logistics. Thanks, Cindy

Looks GREAT!!! Very nice job. I might however suggest a set of doors for the wood entrance, critters and security.

Dave, I actually took the pic with the sliding doors open....they are tucked away behind the wall when pulling wood into the boiling room. Cindy, the PVC pipe is a "quick-connect" pumping station to a SS holding tank above the wood storage area. I placed it out there so it would stay cool and the bottom of the tank is about 4' above the evaporator. I have copper pipe bringing it from the tank to the flu-pan float box. There is also a "clear-tube" indicator coming off the copper pipe on the inside of the boiling room so I can keep track of how much is in the holding tank (upper right hand corner of pic 5).

Mike,

Very nice job. Looks great, we set up the same rope system to open up the cupola doors. Thanks for your service to our country.
Where's your sap tanks? Guessing on the back side of the sugarhouse. Good luck this spring.

Great mechanism for the doors. We are working on that same system now. Currently they are screwed shut. Not good for steam! I found that out on my test boil on New Year's Eve. Tim is thinking one double pulley will work, but I think we need two seperate pulleys in the opposite direction of the rope?
