View Full Version : Smithville Flats is starting to tap
Going to start tapping tomorrow (Sunday). Should get about 1000 done if things go right. Finsh the other 2000 by Tuesdqy hopefully.
Did better than expected today. We got over 1900 tapped today. Should finish tomorrow with no problem. Was surprised to see the sap run at all today as we had a low of 2 degrees here last night and it only got up to 35 degrees for a high. Just goes to show you that the sun is getting higher and stronger.
We finished tapping on MOnday, all 3000 in. Just need to go back and cut a couple of trees off a mainline this morning and everything is ready to go in the woods. Now For the first boil. I don't particularly like the first boil. It seems the sugarhouse equipment always needs a little tinkering the first day no matter how well I think i have it prepared. First boils are always a lot of work.
