Hey guys, i have been looking at an evaporator. Its a 2x6 with one sap float. i was wondering if purchased can they install a syrup float too, so it can have 2 floats? Here is the link to it.

I'm thinking that the other float/floatbox is on the side of the syrup pan that you do not see in the photograph. It looks like a non-reversing type pan. If it did'nt have a float, the level up front would be the same as the rear pan, and it would be tough making syrup like that, lol! A drop flue rig only has one float because the level is the same in both pans.

You'll like that rig over the Half Pint! You'll be drilling more trees come 2013!

2’x6’ complete evaporator with 2’x4’ stainless welded raised flue pan with 7" flues and sap level regulator. 2’x2’ stainless cross flow syrup pan. Arch takes upto 2’ wood and comes with stainless sides, grates, stainless stack and stack cover. Requires 70 firebrick. (Capacity 50-250 taps)
That is what the add says , so i dont seeanything on there about 2 floats
thanks for info, but this doesnt mean im expanding, just looking.

If it is raised flue it has to have 2 floats.

It would be impossible to have 1 float.

It would be impossible to have 1 float.
I have seen raised flues running without a syrup float. They had a gate valve to adjust the flow into the front pan. It can be done but guessing it wouldn't be easy to keep a constant level.

Buckethead is correct. Looks as though the draw-off side is on the left. The valve seen on the right is probably for cleaning purposes only. More than likely there is not a reverse sap flow tube in the back pan either...that would explain why the sap box is on the right...draw off on the left. Of course if it were a 3 x 10 or larger than you would have two float boxes on your syrup pan. That's my assumption. Cute little toy though!:)

Now in days there probally not going to have valves controling level. The float must be on the other side.
