I have the framework of my new arch complete and I was wondering what to use for the bottom of the arch & ramp. It's about 23" between the angle iron and will be supporting a layer of firebrick. I could weld some cross supports if needed. For the sides I was hoping to use some 22 gauge stainless steel screwed to the framework, will this be alright?
I think that will be fine. On my 2x5 they used the same gauge steel on the pans as they did on the arch. They didn't even use any angle. So I think you should be alright. If you really want to you can always put some re enforcers.
Hope this helps,
Joey

It seems like it would be too thin to carry the weight of the firebrick. I figured the bottom would be around 1/8".

With the frame even 24 gauge would work
