I need to purchase 1/2 in mainline for a small section of taps in a straight line on a creek bank. there will be about 30 taps there. I am wondering, do I need to put up wire for it. the one section will be about 100 or alittle more feet. I know that the rapi-tube needs no wire. I can try this, but do i really need wire for 100 ft of 1/2 in with only 20 taps on that part?

I guess it would depend on how the trees are situated there. Can you fasten the 1/2" line to some trees and keep it tight, like a lateral line? Maybe even pound some fence posts or pipes in the ground to act as "trees" so you could string the line. I'm sure it could be done for such a small run.

keep the line tight with a good slope and as previously stated, put up posts/4X4s to keep your line tight if you don't have enough trees.

That should help. the trees are along a creek bank, and the side im tapping on is the high side and below is the bank. cant wind the tubing through the trees, because they are all in a line, and if I tapped on the other side(creek side), it would be pretty high up to tap.

Anybody have any thoughts on the wireless mainline system? I just read about it on a producers website. All his mainline is setup"wireless"???????

few producers around us just set up some stands this summer with it. The Canadians have used it for a couple of years so maybe you can find some quotes from them. Concern is sagging when you have sap in the line.

Most of my pipeline system is wireless. See here: http://mapletrader.com/community/showthread.php?14537-Wireless-Pipeline

All of mine installed the last 2 years is wireless, 3/4 and 1". I have no 1/2" but, just get it tight. I anchor to the uphill end, string the tubing to the downhill end. On both ends I use a grip (chinese finger) then I use a come-a-long (small winch) to stretch it and I anchor it at the bottom to hold tension. My concern using 1/2" is that for every time you need to tie into it, you must cut and clamp an insert fitting. Those will have a hard time not pulling apart.
For your needs I think I'd just run laterals. 100' is good for a lateral. If that section has good slope I'd just do 1 lateral for all, if less that 3% slope (3'/100' drop) I'd run 2 laterals, each with about 10 taps (since you are gravity). Run the laterals weaving from one side of the tree to the opposite side on the next to hold elevation. Then have your drops where you can work them and long enough to reach the entire portion of the tree you can reach. You really have no need for a mainline as you describe your situation.

The problemwith the laterals, is this. Picturethis. The trees are next to a creek. the side i will tap on and run line i should say is facing a field. The other side of the trees are on a drop offf to the creek. these trees are in a staight line, like a stone wall along a field. I tried to get laterals tight there before, but with 20 or more taps, I had to mush sag. the trees are also on very little slope. I might have to just run the main line. Thanks for any feedback!
You can get 1/2" saddles. I do not remember from which company, Look around.
