I need to pump sap up hill about 400ft with about 40ft in elevation difference. I have electric (220) at the location of the collection tank, the tank that i have there is a 435 gal tank. I will be pumping it up to a 800 gal tank at the sugar house. this year we only have 600 taps but we will be adding 800 more next year. I have looked at lots of different pumps (deep well, shallow well, sump) and just was wanting to get some advice on what size of pump iI will need to make this work. Any info would be great. thanks paul

Website should help you figure out the mathematics involved in the size of pump needed.

3x10 Inferno Arch
4,200+ Taps
7,5 HP Vacuum pump
Lapierre 600gph RO
3 SS 1500 gallon tanks
24x32 Sugarhouse
Hope to expand by several thousand taps in 2012.

I have a similar setup to yours but half the distance.I use a 1 hp deep well pump laid in the bottom of the tank. It works well and doesn't freeze up easily.

thanks Chipa, any idea how many gpm you get with your deep well pump?

If you take a deep well pump and hitch it up to a float in the tank so that it will shut off and come on automatically, you would have it made. Just remember that most if not all deep well pumps will not drain back without a little modification.

Also a high pressure pump would work nicely. The same kind used for washing pipeline.

Thanks Thad and Chipa for the info, The deep well pump with float might be the way to go. Do you guys know any thing about the gould pumps leader sells??? they are the centrifugal pumps.

Yes, they can be purchased much cheaper elsewhere. What do you need to know?

I emailed leader a few days ago to ask them about there centrifugal gould pumps and they have not got back to me yet, what i was wanting to ask them is how many feet of lift these pumps are able to do. What do you guys think is a better set up the centrifugal pump or deep well pump with float?? Also Thad when you are talking deep well pump are you talking about the narrow tall pumps that go in the well case or the deep well jet pumps that mount in the building and are not down the well case??? sorry about all the questions, I know very little about pumps and ever company (home depot, menards, lows) that I have called cant tell me what would work good for this set up. So thanks so much for all your help.

I am talking about the ones that are tall and skinny. I am using one this year to pump up and over my hill. Roughly 150' lift. I will have it attataced to a generator. Once or twice a day I will go over and start it up, then there is a float that will shut off the generator.

It sound like you will have a very nice sutup. I think that I will try the deep well pump ( the tall one) and see how that works, thanks for your help
