Vacuum pump Releaser Slamming

we have multiple Bernard releasers single vertical up to 1000 taps, double vertical good up to 2500 taps, and single chamber horizontal supposedly rated up to 6000. be that is questionable.. but, on our horizontal releaser we have had a issue with the releaser slamming shut half way through the release only letting out about half the sap.. any ideas? i have had a couple ideas but i got to wait another 2 months .. what does ya think???

I have a small vertical style, that does this from time to time. I believe the cause to be the float hanging up on the rod, instead of sliding smoothly. It should ride all the way to the bottom of the rod without tugging the rod down (which trips the valve). Maybe its a sticky rod, or the tank not exactly plumb.
