when you look up threw your cupola does the ridge pole and rafter run threw it or did you box it out some how so it is wide open not sure if I will get a drip from the ridge pole and rafters. Did you make the ridge pole and rafters all the same and just build the cupola right on top. Would like advice on how to do this easiest to just build the cupola right on top with out bosing anything out I would think.

Yes, ridge pole and rafters are normal and the cupola just sits on top.

Hey twitch....I just framed up a cupola this fall and am now putting the final touches on the building. I thought I'd upload a few pics for you. I find pics always help me visualize stuff like this. I built a timber frame, so no ridge pole. Hope this helps a bit.

I've seen both ways. I have no ridge pole, I made my own trusses. It should work well either way. The steam that saturates the ridge pole will very quickly dry out. It should not cause any problems unless you used a highly rot suseptable wood. I have Hemlock and it holds up very well.

Mine was built on the ground in two pieces and then slid up the roof once the hole was cut and nailed in place. was slick!
