I am in the process of designing a homemade RO system. I created a cost breakdown/calculator to determine the cost of the system and where each component comes from. I have attached a screen shot of this and was hoping I could get some feedback on it and let me know if there is anything that I may have missed, etc. Unfortunately I cannot attach excel files, but if you would like to look at the actual file, shoot me an email (bellba@muohio.edu) and I can send you a copy.

That took some work to create. Well done, but I have to questoin the cost of RO at $ 200.
Where did that number come from ????

If it's costing you $77-140 per gallon to make syrup....I'd suggest finding another hobby. ;^)

you can't possibly get 5000 gallons of cold sap through an RO that costs only $200. Buying a 4" x 40" membrane from the most economical source in the world costs more than $ 200. EACH and you'll need
at 2 of them. And you can't do anything with them without cannisters, pumps, switches, vavles, filters etc.

a few things that I don't really take into consideration too much, is wood which 1/2 I get my self and 1/2 I buy but super cheap basically $15 a cord + gas to cut it up. and labor I do it myself with no helpers and its not really considered labor to me becasue I enjoy it. and it get me out from infront of the TV in FEB!!!! So I don't really have business model if make and sell enough syrup to support my upgardes then it happens if not it has to wait and my customers understand that. And if I runout I runout thats it they understand!!! But I guess I make good syrup because they keep coming back!!!
